slash TNT welcome to tech news today this is the show where we put the tech news in a beaker we heat it up on a Bunsen burner and then we throw it in your face hmm don’t do that that sounds painful I use those terms because my aunt Priscilla who is a former middle school science teacher is here visiting yes yeah oh boy that at all costs I think that’s that’s the important thing to learn here don’t always wear your safety goggles she says yeah don’t go around Bunsen burning people okay this is not good practice not even with tech news maybe with tech news as long as it doesn’t leave a mark okay the Amazon echo show by the way we’re gonna talk all about Amazon’s announcements later in the show this is a little different the Amazon echo show always seemed destined to end up in the kitchen with its screen that would make watching instructional recipe videos a piece of cake get it but not if Google has anything to do with it headshake from Burke or is it Amazon hard to say but if you ask that the echo show to play a youtube video currently it will tell you that Google doesn’t support YouTube on the device anymore it actually specifically says Google doesn’t support that very pointed response the verge contacted Amazon who said Google made the change based on no technical reason but so they’re kind of pointing fingers are googles and they did it and there’s no reason that they should have done it Google rebutted by saying that Amazon’s implementation of YouTube on the show violates their Terms of Service so it’s a it’s a they said they said sort of thing yeah it is a bummer I read this this morning and I tried to watch a YouTube video on my echo show and I couldn’t and I was bummed although I realized like I haven’t really watched hey have you done that much really and I was actually thinking of taking YouTube off of all of the devices in our house because I just feel like it’s a waste of computer time or unless you’re watching our show on YouTube then it’s not but like with the kids we’re just you know you can get it stuck in this world of you know you start off watching interesting science videos and then you get sucked into this weird world and I just figured I asked my boys I was like what if we just took YouTube off your devices and they were like yeah they’ve gotten into some of the a are apps that egg incorporated that you recommend oh really is there active in something like that I suppose yeah but you you can understand why YouTube would want to do this because you can’t subscribe to anything through the echo show you can’t click on ads and go to those you know you can’t click on links you can’t follow the you know the sponsored links you can’t do any of that stuff in the echo show and that is what YouTube really wants so I mean Amazon is clearly not happy about this and say what they want the Google ones the subscriptions they want you know see the next video they want to keep you there forever and it’s not the greatest experience like you know you could imagine being a 12 year old boy or something and sitting with your iPad and watching YouTube for five hours when your mom wasn’t home but you’re not gonna sit in from the echo show that’s in the kitchen and just watch for that yeah that’s kind of what you look like when you’re looking at the echo that’s what I look like when I watch anything anyways but I’m an outlier I realize yeah so Amazon is probably using YouTube’s API I’m guessing in order to do this so it’s not like you know it’s not like an official YouTube app I’m guessing Amazon probably put this together and that’s probably part of the the reason that Google has a problem with this Stacey Higginbotham on this weekend Google brought up an interesting point that I hadn’t that I hadn’t considered which is the fact the fire tablets also you know they don’t have any of the Google services right it’s a forked version of Android and as such you can’t even really legitimately well I said legitimately that’s probably the wrong word but you can’t go into the Amazon App Store and find YouTube and download it that’s just not possible if you want to get amazon’s or you googles apps you have to sideload them because they just aren’t available there so you know Google and Amazon have these kind of battles already when I think of YouTube I think of all screens you know Google wants YouTube on all the screens but that’s not necessarily the case when it comes to Amazon this could be potentially an extension of that this could also be kind of a little tit for tat for the fact at least at least some part of it could could be anyways for the fact that Amazon doesn’t you know carry things like the chromecast you can’t find the chromecast on Amazon service Amazon brought the Instant Video app to Android finally that doesn’t support chromecast there’s all these weird little ways that Google and Amazon are just kind of like one playing that game hmm well remember in high school when you asked your math teacher when am I gonna need to actually use any of this stuff it turns out the answer is you’ll use it a lot if you grew up to be on Apple’s face ID team today Apple posted a white paper on how face ID works and how it keeps your face secure spoiler alert it’s a lot of math I read the entire white paper so you don’t have to the most important part is that like like Fight Club facial matching is performed in the secure Enclave and stays on the secure Enclave does anybody talked about the secure all no no you can’t talk about face ID in the secure Enclave also face ID data including mathematical representations of your face are as secure as Apple could make them they’re also as accurate as they could make them having tested the math with willing they were willing participants of different genders ages and ethnicities which explain that creepy mask mask wall they had there so Apple says that the probability that a random person in the population could look at your iPhone 10 and unlock it using face ID is approximately one in 1 million versus one in 50,000 there’s a chance yes your doppelganger yeah one in 1 million people are your doppelganger according to touch ID the probability of a false match is different for twins which we’ve discussed and siblings that look like each other and children under the age of 13 so I don’t even know what I’m looking at right now is this my doppelganger okay yeah I’ll buy doppelgangers missing a little space right in between his eyes I would be a good to test and it’s also measuring I mean a lot of how how these types of systems work and I’m sure this is but one component of face ideas it measures on you know the amount of distance between all of the major kind of features of your face how far between your eyes and how that you know correlates to the distance between your eyes and your nose and all that kind of stuff adds up so I don’t even think that would be enough that would throw off the math entirely and that’s just one element that’s kind of part of the point of the white paper is to kind of show how much goes into matching these things it certainly sounds like based on what Apple’s presenting here that compared to touch ID this is the more secure approach I’m curious to see how well it works like cap you know if you end up with a Craig federighi situation you know from from onstage if that happens more often than you would like for it to happen as a security feature that you use multiple times throughout the course of a day yeah I mean cuz you just enter your code and it’s not that hard yeah but yes that is true but I’ve but I’ve had interactions with security systems I’m sure you have to wear because it’s this alternate option for security you want to use it and the fact that it doesn’t work and yeah you can always fall back on using your pin code but you’ve now just spent more time getting in than if you had just spent you know done your pin code initially and as those add up and you’re less likely to want to use it at least I am at that point I’m like well if I’m spending all my time not knowing if it’s going to work then I’m just gonna use my pin code right now so but you skipped right over the most important part of this is that they say it doesn’t work for kids under 13 so now I no you were gonna buy your too responsible young daughters iPhone tens for Christmas oh yeah my 7 year old and my four year old yes we were gonna go go for it this Christmas season and I guess not yeah I know once I read that I was like well that’s a bad idea yeah right cuz yeah it doesn’t work so I guess I’ll have to spend my $2,000 because there were no other bad you know bad parts of that that idea yeah so there’s that although that that kind of threw me off a little bit because like when I think of Google’s face matching Google’s really good with kids like when I look at photos it can identify my daughters from when they were a newborn you know all the way up to the age that they’re at now so it’s able to determine that I’m not entirely sure why Apple apples dozen or maybe what Apple is saying is it’s just less likely to work as well you know maybe it’s it’s less than 1 in 1 million maybe it’s do you have baby pictures that it recognizes as you cuz my baby pictures that I’ve scanned and put on Google photos it doesn’t recognize as me that’s a really good question I know that I have photos scanned of me I would have to take a look I’m not sure if they’ve matched up to me I’m guessing that they have but I haven’t actually gone in there specifically to look for that we should definitely test it on that kindergarten first day of school picture you have where your parents dressed you in that Playboy yeah it’s really those are really great a school school photo day shirt for them to dress me in I blame my dad for that one but I love that it exists because that’s totally my dad anyways Burke has something to say he’s as face ID map cannot be changed may be explained well yeah but I mean yeah they like I mean as you grow your face your facial features yeah maybe the proportions change but there’s certain things that also stay stay similar but yeah magazine yeah no I’m not really quite sure well then in that case how is Google able to do this then I’ll be good well Hebei yeah I guess so maybe Google should work for Apple people hire Google for this and there you go well speaking of secure Enclave because it’s sometimes it’s our favorite topic to talk about on this show signal might be known as one of the most secure messaging apps available but it still asks when you install it to sync your contacts upon install to make communication a bit easier for users and that makes a lot of security minded folks uneasy now the company seems to have a solution that lets it have its cake and eat it too it relies on repurposing a feature of Intel’s chips called software guard extensions though that feature was designed for digital rights management but in this case they’re repurposing it on their servers not only that allows anyone to check the integrity of the technology to know if it’s been changed to suddenly allow for storage of those contacts in any other place so the idea here is that when you sync your contacts they end up in this secure Enclave thanks to this feature this Intel feature that signal is blind to that basically anyone is blind to it operates within their entirely and it’s deleted upon removal part of the kind of security checkpoint built into this feature is that you know in the case of DRM or in the case of this users could actually have because it’s open source could actually have view into the code to know whether something has been altered to allow for someone to actually see in there if that ever happened at any point there would be a signal of that for users and they would know that you know something has changed and decide not to do anything so therefore that would be the safety check essentially yeah it’s really interesting I read Moxie Marlinspike s’ or a blog post on that and I just love to say Moxie Marlinspike him he’s the head of open whiskers whisper systems and because signal is open-source and it’s it’s always being looked at and always changed and improved which makes it you know more secure and just kind of a better tool and they took they he talks a little bit about the idea of being you know all social networks need or an all message messaging tools need a a social graph but that’s where you start to get in trouble like with Facebook where it’s like Oh want to login using Facebook like oh great then all we have to do is see all your contacts and you know so you’re constantly giving up all of this information to Facebook and then they own that but that’s not the way signal works and they they’ve they’ve been improving the product on so many ways to try to figure out can you be social and also private at the same time so I wish more people would use signal because that’s why I don’t cuz I don’t know people that do yeah I know that’s the big challenge is moving everybody over and getting them to use it their prior method to this involves creating a cryptographic hash of the contacts which you know is you know creating a hash that’s a good thing for security but it’s relatively easy they say to run all possible phone numbers through it to through the hash process and then match them after the fact so if you you know if you’ve run based on that hash process you run every single number possibility phone number possibility through there then it’s able you know you’re able to kind of backtrack it and know so this would replace that and maybe it’ll be a way it was rolling out in the coming months maybe it will ultimately be a way for other similar apps to also do this in a very secure way mm-hmm recode reports that Facebook Google and now Twitter have all been asked to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee in November the social media scrutiny has been heating up all year but has reached a fever pitch following Facebook’s disclosure that rest the Russians bought a hundred thousand dollars worth of ads on the site during the 2016 election sources told recode that executives at Twitter Google and Facebook will be asked tough questions about how the Kremlin used their platform to spread disinformation and what they could have done to stop it according to the report by The Daily Beast today in addition to buying online ads Russians posed as a group called the United Muslims of America which was a real group but they were pretending to be part of it in many attempts to sway the u.s. presidential election and as long as we’re talking politics I might tell you that today Perth the president also weighed in with a tweet saying that Facebook was always anti-trump mmm and then Zuckerberg responded and and made that this point more clearly he has before which we’ve talked about before he’s in the heat quote he wrote after the election I made a comment that I thought the idea that misinformation on Facebook changed the outcome of the election was AK was crazy calling that crazy was dismissive and I regret it yeah I remember thinking that when I heard him say that and be like wow that’s pretty dismissive of him to say that because mm-hmm he also said in this response he said Trump says Facebook is against him liberals say we helped Trump both sides are upset about ideas and content they don’t like that’s what running a platform for all ideas looks like and I think that’s a pretty pretty valid point right when everybody is equally angry with you about what you did in this certain thing then you probably treated it pretty pretty middle-of-the-road I mean there’s no doubt about it I mean Facebook is what it is it’s a platform filled with people that have all different kinds of viewpoints so of course they’re gonna come from different directions and if Facebook can cater to them equally I’m not so sure you know I can’t say for certain that they do but it’s certainly on their radar if you remember back when the whole liberal bias thing came up with trending news that was last year Facebook then had an internal review and basically came back to say we didn’t find any any you know evidence of this but still we’re going to you know make adjustments to how how we run things so that we have a more balanced platform they kind of softened their approach that and a lot of people would look at that and we’re thinking that maybe that was what led to the flippant response they softened so much on this idea of fake news you know about making things so fair and and so you know kind of pulling and balancing the platform that it just it made their response kind of a little flatter and you know perhaps this is being used against them right now you know what I mean like call them out be very critical of Facebook and maybe Facebook again flattens out and is a little bit soft on the issue this time around I’m not sure that’s exactly what’s happening but that’s that’s kind of seems to be the history of the last couple of years I mean we could get into a really long argument government regulation but it seems to make no sense at this point that television is regulated by the US government and Facebook is not at all regulated by the US government I know why because it was a long time ago and television came up but at anytime the government could step in to the TV and say here you know put this on you know you have to play this and that’s just and there’s no kind of regulation like that with the Facebook and so the other big news today was that the Russians bought a black lives matter ad and directed it at people living in Ferguson and people living in Baltimore and it was a relief threatening at it was May it was designed to make black lives matter look scary and so there’s no I mean there’s no that doesn’t happen on TV like necessarily it’s not that targeted and you know the government’s just paying more attention to what’s happening on TV what ads are doing on TV there’s more control there so I don’t know if that’s where we’re headed I’m not saying it’s right or wrong for the government to have regulation over TV or over Facebook but that might be where we’re headed I’m sure that’s what the technology companies worry is where we’re is where they’re headed because they have for you know by a large for many many years they’ve been able to kind of operate to their own morals and values and you know now the stakes have gotten a lot higher over the past couple of years and you know now it’s it’s leading to this official kind of investigation into the matter yeah I’m sure I’m sure the folks at Facebook Google you know all these big-name tech companies are worried about what you’re talking about it’s very possible that it might happen Peter Thiel if you remember one of Facebook’s most influential investors super close allied at Trump he you know there was a news a couple of weeks ago that he was possibly being considered for the chair of the president’s intelligence advisory board and in that role he would have oversight over all the large tecnique tech companies including Google and Amazon and so yeah it’s kind of kind of seems like all points are converging right now be interesting to see where that leads hoping to get ahead of the Sonos event on October 4th Amazon announced a oodles of noodles X noodles of them at a surprise press event today we’ll talk about all of them but first let’s take a minute to thank rocket mortgage the sponsor of this episode the mortgage experience wasn’t keeping up with the times you know that if you got an mortgage recently you know it’s it’s dated mortgage by Quicken Loans for their support so yesterday Jason you and I chatted about how terrifying it would be if Amazon was to tell us how much of our money that we’ve given them over the lifetime of over our lifetime if that was like something you click on like your your orders over your lifetime and there was an amount that’s the number I wouldn’t want to see and now it looks at least like that number is about to get a little bit bigger let’s talk about all the amazon announcements starting with the most expensive first which is only a hundred and fifty dollars that’s the echo plus it’s a new smart home hub for all your Internet of Things devices so basically you you get this little it looks like the Amazon echo and you get it and you say discover all vices and if you have any smart devices in your home they’ll they’ll find them it’s got second-generation far-field voice recognition and enhanced sounds so a slightly better speaker it has a 100 partners right out of the box and it comes with a Philips hue smart bulb just one but those things are expensive right aren’t they can be depending on the bulb that you’re getting I mean you know some of them are not that expensive like you get a 2-pack of the light you know it really depends on what it is but you get a 2-pack for like 20 25 bucks or whatever but still nice to get it in and I think what that does is that sends a message as far as like what this device the power of what this device can do yeah so it’s it’s uh it’s uh it’s my as I mentioned before my aunt here and I asked her do you have any um you know Amazon echoes in your house and she said no cuz they might be listening to me it’s true I just totally forgotten that yeah right you’ve you’ve been lulled into all the things that can do for you but I by the way cameras microphones everywhere at that – yeah $149 like you said 30 dollars cheaper than the original heck oh so even though this is kind of like the premium one of the of the new series is still 30 bucks cheaper than what you would have spent with the full-size echo and it sounds like it’s ZigBee is the is the IOT standard that’s under that’s operating here so you know if you have if you have other hubs for different you know IOT devices throughout your home that operate on ZigBee you could essentially replace those other hubs with this you might lose some functionality of apps that talked specifically with those hubs and everything but it would you know simplify your IOT set up essentially and that could be nice mm-hmm for $20 less then that then the echo plus you can get a cute little echo spot that costs a hundred and thirty dollars it’s basically the echo show with a screen but it’s shrunken to the form factor of an alarm clock it has a 2.5 inch screen round screen which you know I’m not necessarily fond of I like it oh come on it’s cute it is cute it’s the port streaming services like prime music also Pandora Spotify iHeartRadio and tune in and of course not Apple music or Google Play Music because they’re mad at each other you can watch your nursery cameras so if you have a little camera in the baby’s room you can watch through there if you have a security cam looks like a doorbell cam you can watch that through there you can make phone calls and this is available now you can you can order it now and it’ll be available it’ll come in December for the holidays I think it’s cute this is probably my favorite of all the devices are you gonna get one I don’t know I mean the question on that that I have on this this also came up on this we can Google earlier is this is a device that is absolutely intended for your bedroom right like it’s an alarm clock like where else you’re going to need an alarm clock and so you’re gonna have this by by your bed in your bedroom it’s got a camera it’s connected to the Internet if you want to go ahead and throw that tinfoil hat on and be worried about the fact that you’ve got an internet connected camera pointed at you in your bedroll your thing to worry that’s something for you to worry about it and lose lots of sleep over I suppose it doesn’t worry you alarm clock and it knows when you’re sleeping wait a minute knows you’re awake it knows if you’ve been bad or good so see they missed a magical marketing opportunity here I don’t know like I a lot of people aren’t gonna care about that but if I have Stacey you know like this is the internet of things it’s an internet connected camera like is there and is there really something to be worried about she says yes IOT is insecure be worried about that yeah so I don’t know does it I suppose you could throw a little piece of tape over the top of it but it would it would limit the sleek quality of the device I don’t know if I’ll get one the echos show the one with the screen in is is a constant it it’s it’s coming between my husband and I he doesn’t like it he hates it he always turns it off he turns it he turns it around and plugs that he puts it in a drawer like he does like yeah yeah and it’s not just that he’s scared that someone’s watching us it’s that just having another screen in our house with three teenagers that walk around with a screen in their pocket and you know it’s in the kitchen when that’s the time that we’re all together and then they’re looking around you know so that’s Green infiltration yeah yeah and it has some really bad features on it which I just figured out how to turn off so it’s a little bit better but it had these like weird headlines like you know just you know lion gets loose in San Francisco or something you know just just silly kind of click baby headlines that doesn’t run off and it’s like ask you know ask Siri about the lion and it was just like the worst so I do I need to know about the lion you know it plays pictures of like it can play all the pictures in my photo album of beaches which is much nicer than that so I think that has eased it a little that’s you know that’s improved my marriage a little bit because do that setting but I don’t know the bedside table unless he just if I just put it on my bedside table and he doesn’t you know won’t even notice that it’s over there maybe I mean it’s basically it’s it’s the and it’s like the smaller version of the echo what was it it was the was it the show oh yeah this show that was supposed to be in her closet and no one really talks about that because I think is that even out I think it’s out yeah but I don’t know anyone that has it or I don’t know if it’s out I don’t even know if they they might have like scaled back on that yeah introducing Amazon echo show 229 no show show is the screen what a look and yeah that’s not even on their site yeah I think that everybody made fun of it including us and so I think maybe exclusive by invitation that’s right is so it’s fashionistas and I didn’t obviously that didn’t have a screen so yeah there’s a little bit of crossover there yeah next comes the $99 new Amazon echo it looks more stylish with a smaller shorter cloth covered or faux wood design like the Google home or the yet to be announced Apple home pie or yet to be released Apple home pod it’s also competing in terms of sound with the home pod with a new tweeter it goes on sale today for $99 you can also buy three for 250 dollars from multi-room audio so this is just a cheaper it’s somewhere between the echo dot and the Amazon echo it’s got a dedicated woofer and tweeter plus Dolby sound and free calls in the US Canada and Mexico and those six different shells so you can choose between whatever you know cloth one you want like the Google home mm-hmm okay so what come at your dad like that one the little plot that matches the headboard nice and no camera and no screen no yeah no camera no screen they’re 3-pack is $250 you just add three to your cart you get fifty $50 discount applied and so that ends up being kind of a good example of their recently announced multi room capability the functionality to kind of have these scattered throughout your home and all be playing the same song let’s say all synced up and everything this would be one example of easy way to do that if you want to get on that train a next in line is is not an echo but it’s the $69 firetv with support for 4k HDR video with 2160p resolution at 60 frames per second it’s a tiny box sort of like a dongle with an HDMI cable on it it hangs off the back of your TV to avoid unsightly wires it also comes with an Alexa voice remote like the previous fire TV that was only half the price so I’m not sure what that the previous fire TV had 4k but it didn’t have HDR and as we’ve learned if we watch our home theater geeks HDR is the thing yeah HD ours big the previous one also it did have 4k but this one has it at how many frames per second was 60 60 frames per second which is an increase as well so 60 frames per second 4k here also the HDR and yeah that’s quite a it’s quite a big dongle or maybe it’s not it’s yeah oh I know I know it hangs out the back of the TV but in the photo where it’s like hanging off the TV it almost looks like things big and heavy enough that it might just unplug but it probably won’t I think Amazon’s probably thought of that yeah okay not that fire TV I don’t have I’ve never really explored fire TV so I don’t know how cool it is but I know people are really into the fire TV like it’s it’s a good kind of you know connected television way to go yeah I have an Apple TV on our upstairs old-fashioned TV and then downstairs we have Google TV Android TV and it’s it’s fine except for there’s no voice remote and I got really used to the voice remote with the Apple TV and once you go to voice remote you can’t go back and it sounds silly but if you ever tried to type in because I’m not flipping through channels I’m actually typing in things to search most of the time for TV shows or movies or you know I don’t like to do a lot of browsing I want to find what I want to find and on the Apple TV I can just say what I want I’m doing so this has a voice remote does your chromecast have a voice remote do you have a voice remote on your TV I don’t have a voice remote on my TV I mean if you’re using chromecast a lot of times you’re using your phone to control it your phone is your remote and so you could do a voice command through that I could also do it through my Google home I could take it yes I could have voice control over my chromecast with my Google home I just never think to do that yeah like is kind of turn on actually I just turned on my playstation 3 and go to the app I’m apparently I’m old-fashioned in that regard I haven’t been using chromecast that much these days but it does have yeah it does have the remote with the the microphone in the remote so you can fire off those commands if you want I have I can hook my Android TV up to my Amazon echo and I can tell it to turn off the TV and turn on the TV and that’s all it lets me do I don’t know you know blocking that if it’s Google or Amazon I’m guessing it’s Google after this story like but it’s just like it’s just like a slap in the face you know you can’t it’s like we’ll let you turn it off and turn on but yeah that’s as far as our technology can go sorry yeah who knows who it is because I think they’re both equally kind of petty in certain ways as far as that’s concerned so it really could be both of them for $45 you can get the echo connect that’s a box that will let you make and accept landline phone calls from your echo devices it plugs into a standard phone jack and also into your echo turning it into a phone that you can make phone calls with using your own number not the Amazon app as you previously had to do if you wanted to use your echos as a phone you both had to download the app it was very complicated and no one ever used it it will look work with a landline number or your VoIP number it’s available for pre-order today available and then it will ship in the fourth quarter of this year sometimes they gave months sometimes they they gave quarters so it’s very vague I think the main overall message from Amazon was like we have a bunch of stuff order it now and you’ll get it we have a bunch of stuff that fits conveniently in your stockings yeah stockings for Christmas we’re talking about you know everything else we normally talk about which is four hundred five hundred a thousand dollars you just yeah yeah yeah interesting though although and and it offers support for 9-1-1 which is something that google home does not Google home is doing this differently though Google home is using their Google Voice and kind of voice over IP in order to do phone calls this is quite literally taking your landline plug and plug it into the back and then or out there and then take an output from this thing and bring that into your echo device so it’s it’s basically taking your phone line and just using it through that device instead of plugging it into a phone let’s say so you get your caller ID you get your 9-1-1 compatibility the question remains do you actually have a landline anymore I do because sonic you have sonic internet who’s one of our sponsors and they give it to you they provide that it’s part of the the internet service so I forget that I have it often sometimes in emergency situations I’ll use it like if my kids aren’t answering their cell phones and they need to call and it rings and it’s so not not a normal situation for that phone to ring that they definitely answer back right and if I used to hearing that ring yeah and if I if I ever gave anyone that phone number if getting phone calls was something important it has that sort of you know where it’ll say Jason is calling you from your that tiny device that’s it’s also spying on you on the side of your bed so everything’s plans yeah it’s supposed to work is like an excellent speakerphone I guess if you know you work at home and you do a lot of I don’t know conference call on the phone maybe it would be useful a lot of crazy okay finally finally if you only have $10 to spend you can get the echo button which lets you play family games on your echo with buzzer buzzers I don’t even know if you can buy one at a time why we 2-pack but each one is only $20 if you want to go whenever the friend and you each have your buzzer and then you’d only use it when you went over to the friends house to play the game so if you’ve ever played a game on your Amazon echo like jeopardy or there are a lot of other games that you just saw Trouty in and this way you couldn’t press the button and be civilized it sounds like fun the buttons light up with different colors I am kind of bummed because I kind of do want to lease devices which means I’m gonna have to replace all the echo dots that I have so why can’t the doc just do that why can’t they do like you know add a button to that there is a button on it why can’t I use my echo dot button mmm did the mute button is that we were talking about like in set button yeah probably in the thrill of the game when you’ve got the answer it might be harder to hit that than it is on these where it’s just like this big blunt object but yeah you’re right hey repurpose it for the for the purposes of the game and this is kind of cool I actually like at first I wanted to feel like really this is so weird but it’s kind of neat like it’s not that expensive is the thing so it’s easy to get in on this and and you know play around with it and I’m sure it’d be fun to play a game like this amazon says this is the first in their Alexa gadgets lineup so something like this you know something along these lines you expect to see more because it sounds like they’re gonna have a family of devices that fall into that okay the birdcam is now the priscilla cam my aunt Priscilla says you don’t move it over it move it further toward the classroom application Oh so kids could use it in the classroom to answer to press the buttons again oh very engaging for classroom it would love us aunt Priscilla the formal met former middle school teacher thank you she’s trying to steal your job Burt via free so before we move on Amazon announcement sorry I mean you are definitely in the echo camp I don’t have any echo devices what is the thing you think you’re gonna get well I only have six echo devices that’s all I I think if anything the spot because it’s cute and so people are watching me while I’m sleeping well I bought nine like I’m just not probably gonna get any of these like I just don’t have any like if I got one of these I’d be changing entirely however home works so be a big it would be a big switch my dad has the Google home and he has the Amazon echo and he has an echo dot and he has the echo be the Eco be three echo enabled thermostat but he doesn’t really use the Google home yeah I do both well I think if you have both you probably end up realizing at some point you end up realizing what is the one you use more than the other you know what I mean there’s probably a reason why you do and I just don’t wanna kick I don’t need to complicate things more by adding more platforms in my house to decide between wait so would you get are you gonna get like any kind of security camera for your dog to watch him while you’re I don’t know I’ve really thought about it I guess I could but he’s she’s a dog she could be I’m sure she could be threatening if she really wanted to I mean she’s adorable don’t get me wrong no I mean a security camera like so you can watch her wow you’re like to see how she’s doing destroying things what can I do if she’s destroying things I don’t know other than know the dang it she’s destroying things and when I get home it’s gonna be a big mess and that just sounds this no no I’m sure I’m sure this will change over time we just got the puppy yes I’m learning how to be a dad to a puppy okay so these don’t need cameras they don’t need echo dots now if it was if it was an echo with that I could do like 2-way video call and we could talk to each other you know she could I could like ring and she’d run up to it and tap the screen a trainer to do that then I could talk to my dog and then hit hit a echo buzzer button an echo button and that would release dog food into a bowl and then do you have that I know I’ve heard of these these are things that you can do actually with this you could probably I’m sure if you were a developer might be able to rig that up it’s not impossible anyways feedback time Mike from downing ttan Pennsylvania writes not sure as to how to say this nicely age discrimination does exist as does sex discrimination appearance discrimination race discrimination etc anything that can be used to differentiate folks can be can also be used to discriminate I was working for a good company when we were bought almost immediately they started laying off older mostly male workers I was nailed during the third round just three weeks shy of my 55th birthday ouch this was also just over two years since I had earned my MS is from Penn State University I had worked hard to keep my skills current it took five years before I could find another good full-time job at the suggestion of the state employment services office I had removed all references to employment prior to 1980 after doing that I did get more interviews I finally got did get a good job with a local transit agency I stayed with them until I was 68 that sounds and that sounds miserable having to go through all that yes of course this was in reference to the study that we talked about yesterday that men and women are discriminated against equally after the age of 40 in tech careers we did get lots of email about that from people who agreed that it was true so yeah yeah experience so fun times or we’re glad you’re retired now Mike Duncan email us and send us funny responses to our tweets yes thank you good that is your real job TNT’s fan of the day is michael on twitter who sent this picture not of him watching tnt but watching the episode of know how that we infiltrated to discuss how to recover from the Equifax hack then we are it’s like TNT how yes know what we’re doing with our arms and hands but not having any part of it yeah there was some I was doing some dancing on know how when the UPS guy came and like we have a lot of the screens or everywhere and the UPS guy walked in and saw it he’s like you know that that’s gonna be the only internet forever the internet forever show us how you watch or listen to TNT whether you’re dancing or not we like dancing record a video or take a picture of yourself or set up post it on Instagram Google+ Twitter or Facebook and use the hashtag how I watch TNT and we will find it finally take to the skies maybe someday you’ll be able to stream video from the internet instead of being stuck with whatever grab bag of movie and TV options they have chosen for you or the ones that you thought to you know store offline on their device Netflix is working with airline carriers to offer its encoding and technology to enable low-cost or even free Wi-Fi streaming to passengers better in-flight Wi-Fi I’m sure you can imagine you know the Netflix definitely wants to be on all screens at all times so better in-flight Wi-Fi probably means better chance that you’re gonna be streaming video light like Netflix so they have a lot to gain not to mention they’ve got kind of a good audience to to offer this to if you already have an account you just sign in and you watch your stuff if you don’t there you are up in the air totally bored you know like I want to watch something fine I’ll sign up for the 30-day free trial and boom you’re in yes or or that’s a great way to be introduced to the service and you decide you don’t want to get rid of it so it’s a pretty good deal for Netflix yeah it’s not coming until 2018 they said but you will can also download netflix you don’t need to stream you don’t need internet to watch Netflix you can download on your devices that’s true sometimes you forget though like like when we go on trips I’ve got you know my device although I don’t really load a lot of offline media basically it’s my girls like I’ve got to make sure I make sure anyways that their tablets are loaded up with something that they’re actually gonna want to watch because let’s face it the flight is a lot easier when they have something to watch and I feel like the night before any big trip like that is just me sitting down with like all this technology going load download ran out to space delete things now download that thing wait for it did I get the right ones now maybe I need to take that off and replace it with this it’s just a pain I’d rather stream yeah that is I do that too but I do it while I’m at work because we have such faster downloads oh that’s all that precious bandwidth yes that we are flush with yeah Burke is asking a very valid question which is
