Happy Mother’s Day if you’re one of the seven mothers who watches this channel. One of them being my mom. Mom, if you happen to watch this video, hello. Hope all is well. I’ll call you later today. I’m going to your brother’s house for a large feast with the rest of the family. But we’re not here to talk about Mother’s Day. We’re not here to talk about the Sega Nomad. The video is still coming. It’s right here. I have everything set up. I’m just trying to get all cross my tees and dot my eyes with this. So, I want to make it kind of fancy. No, we are here to do a little update because when I’m wrong about something, I’m usually very good at saying, “Hey, I was wrong. I screwed up. My bad. I’m sorry.” And I try to correct myself. But when I’m right about something, I feel like people need to try and give me just a little bit of credit. I don’t want all the credit in the world because most of the time I’m just kind of spitballing things based on things that I hear and based on things that I see. And this isn’t a perfect example of something that I talked about like two weeks ago or so and a lot of people thought I was dead wrong about this, but based on new information that has came out, it appears that I was right about this. And so we’re going to do a little bit of explaining and a little bit of gloating. If this is your first time on the channel, hit the subscribe button. You might as well if you like people that are right about things from time to time. So, obviously, we’re talking today about the Nintendo Switch 2 software because there has been quite a bit of confusion surrounding all of this stuff due to all of the different formats of software that we have. Of course, we have games like Cyberpunk 2077 where when you buy a physical version of that game, it is the physical version on the cartridge, the entire thing. No need to have a download required. Then of course you have other things such as the digital game cards and that’s where things kind of started to get murky for people because of the fact that you have to download the game. This is pretty much just a key that allows you to download the game. Now, as I’ve gone on record before as saying, I do not hate the digital game cards. I do like the fact that you can sell them or lend them out to someone and it allows them to play the game, thus giving it a bit more of value as far as reselling is concerned when you’re talking about that comparative to something like a standard digital download. That of course being the third different type of game that you can purchase on the Nintendo Switch. But where things got weird was when we started to talk about file sizes that had gotten out there for some of these third-party games. Some of these games aren’t exactly the biggest in the world in terms of file sizes. A game like Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S is a whopping 4 gigabytes on the Nintendo Switch 2. So obviously they would put that on a cartridge, right? Like why wouldn’t they do that when there was so many games that were, you know, games that were smaller? Usually the smaller games ended up on the cartridge for the original Nintendo Switch, but this game was a digital card for the Nintendo Switch 2. So, I kind of got, you know, interested in in the fact that it seemed like and based on things that I had heard, it seemed like there was only one cartridge file size for the Switch 2 and that’s what everyone had to use or otherwise use a digital game cartridge or just have a standard download sort of thing. And it seems like that hypothesis was actually correct even though many people said that it wasn’t. So this is coming to us from Necroalipe Uni Nintendo. I don’t know where I was going with that. Uh gracias aos vamos de arc system works in a tipos deformats exhib. Jay gets me cuz I know it would be like Jorgeos M Proto par Nintendo Switch 2 or because I’m not Portuguese although I did I did um live next to a Portuguese family when I was younger and they had chickens and they used to give us eggs. We can actually translate this. Thanks to leaks from Ark System Works. And if you are Portuguese, tell me how I did cuz I think I did pretty spot on there. Except if you’re Nate because Nate will say I did bad. Thanks to leaks from Ark System Works, only three types of formats have been found to be available for games being planned for the Switch 2. Digital game only, 64 GBTE cartridge, full game or cartridge with full game and potion code name for key card format. So digital game only, meaning something that is only on the Switch e or Switch 2 eShop. the 64 gigabyte cartridge. That of course being something like Cyberpunk or a firstparty Nintendo Switch 2 game at least as of right now. That is 64 GB or less and then put onto the cartridge and then potion which is the code name for key card format. Meaning meaning that when I said that what I had heard from people was that there was only a 64 gigabyte cartridge that was available for the Nintendo Switch 2 when it came to physical games. It appears that that is actually the case and that is the reason why a lot of games that are much smaller than 64 gigabytes that we know are confirmed to be smaller than that are indeed skipping the traditional cartridge format and going with the digital key card format because savings. A 4 GB game on a 64 GB cartridge is a massive waste of space. And if this was something like a Blu-ray, which are pennies on the dollar, that wouldn’t really be a major issue. The major issue comes into the account when you start to factor in the fact that these cartridges aren’t exactly cheap. I don’t know if there’s any concrete information about how much these cartridges actually cost, but they are definitely much more than something like a Blu-ray would cost. And if we’re talking about, you know, I’ve seen the number $16 or so thrown around out there for this. As much as that being the price that companies have to pay for the 64 GB cartridge, that could just be, you know, incorrect information. I’m not sure. So, take it with a grain of salt. But just using that as an example for this, if we’re talking a game like Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S and you’re having to pay up to $16 or potentially even more for that cartridge, plus you have to also have artwork for it. Plus, you also have to have the case for it. Is it really worth it to go the standard physical route? With the Nintendo Switch One, you had variable cartridge sizes. You had 4 gigs, 8 gigs, uh 8 gigs, 16 gigs, and 32 gigs. Now, 32 gigs wasn’t used all that much because that was the most expensive one. That was pretty much just used with games like The Witcher 3, and there was a Dragon Quest game that was like an offshoot that came out in Japan only. That was actually the first 32 GB cartridge. But you’re gonna run into the problem with this of companies not wanting to put their games on a traditional physical uh you know release for this because of the massive cost if there is only one cartridge which seems to be the case now. I’m not sure why that is the case. I guess maybe Nintendo figured that most of these you know newer games are going to be larger file sizes to begin with anyway. So, if they want to compress stuff and make it work on a standard video game cartridge for the traditional physical media sort of stuff, like they’ll figure it out on their own. But it’s definitely kind of detrimental when you’re talking about these smaller games or things like compilations of of retro games or retro inspired games, you know, stuff like that. Like, what if there’s a new 2D sidescrolling game that’s that’s coming out? But is a company really going to want to mess around having to pay a premium price for a 64 GB cartridge to sell this game for $30 or $40? Or is there going to be a Switch 2 tax with this as well? Are you willing to pay more for a traditional physical game cartridge? Because you might. And there might be a decent vocal minority of people on social media that say, “Hey, you know what? We don’t care. you know, if we got to pay $10 extra, $20 extra, whatever the case may be, that is fine. We can deal with that. You know, that’s cool. But will the mass audience want that? Because you’re already bitching about prices with games like Mario Kart World at $80. And if we’re talking about third-party games and they’re, you know, 10 or $20 cheaper on other platforms, are you willing to spend that extra money just so you can have the traditional physical format? I think you gotta I I think people say one thing but they vote with their wallet another way. That’s just my opinion on it though. I don’t think people are going to stand on business with this. I really don’t because you know what RGT is not going to. I’m I am whatever however I can get these games cheaper. That’s the method for me. That is the method for me. Physical games are a great thing if you plan on selling them or you plan on getting value for them. I don’t plan on that. I sold a large chunk of my physical collection because it was just taking up space and I would rather, you know, somebody else be able to play it. I’m cool with digital stuff. I’ve kind of, you know, started to embrace it at some point in time. The convenience factor. Xenolade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. I bought that digitally, folks. I bought it digitally. You know, it’s a it’s a weird thing. And I used to love physical media, but physical media as we know it is slowly dying. And these companies are trying to speed it up with things like this. And if I have to pay $20 more to play the same game that I can get for $20 less on another system or in this sort of instance via a uh you know the digital game card instead of the traditional cartridge, sign me up for the savings. Times is tough out here, man. You know, we’re trying to eat. We’re trying to pay the light bill and stuff like that. But let me know what you think of this in the comment section down below because I feel like this is a very interesting topic. It’s something that has been discussed quite a bit. But now that we have this alleged information from leaks from Arc System Works, does this kind of make sense? And I mean, your boy was right. You know, your boy was right. Yes, the Knicks lost two to one. We’re still in the We’re still in the driver’s seat. I expected to lose game three to be perfectly honest with you. This is not a surprise to me.
